Goathland is well known as 'Heartbeat' country, it's the location of the popular 'Aidensfield' home of Greengrass and the exploits of the local bobby, it attracts thousands of visitors each year. Goathland station also features strongly in the enchanting encounters of the young wizard in 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. |
| Spring time at Farndale is definitely a sight to behold, the glorious yellow carpet of the famous daffodil walk is inspiring stuff whether you are a budding poet or not. For another awesome view visit the Hole Of Horcum at Saltersgate. This gigantic natural hollow is subject to much local legend and mystery. It is said that this strange freak of nature was created by two giants battling across the Dale, rendering blows which lambasted the land and left the huge vacuole which is so popular with hand gliders and hikers. It is admired by all for its spectacular vista. |  |
| Rosedale Abbey is yet another popular village steeped in history and set in the heart of the National Park. The old cottages with their white washed walls and rose arbours makes this place a firm favourite. The remains of the Cisercian Priory which was dissolved by Henry VIII in the 16TH Century and the Eastmines which are reminders of the ironstone industry, add an historic interest. Thornton-le-Dale is an exquisite picture postcard village with its own stocks and an ancient cross on the village green. It is renown for its beck (stream), the Thatched cottage and for its wonderful ice-cream, it makes an excellent base for touring Dalby Forest. The forest drive is a 9 mile scenic route which runs between Thornton-le-Dale and Hackness, incorporates the Bridestones, an impressive outcrop of sandstone, and Dalby where you will find a delightful childrens park where fun will be guaranteed. There are plenty of places to choose from in the moors when it comes to looking for accommodation; hotels, bed and breakfasts, guest houses and holiday cottages. There are also camping and caravan sites to please those who prefer the outdoors! |
